Two people were killed by falling debris after a missile attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
“As a result of falling debris in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv… 2 people died, according to initial reports,” wrote Sergiy Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, on Telegram as reported by news agencies. AFPWednesday (30/8/2023).
He added that one other person was injured and was being given medical assistance.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that “two dead people were found” in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
He did not elaborate on how they died or whether they were the same two people the city’s military administration had reported.
The regional military administration had previously warned of a missile strike and said air defenses were operational.
An AFP reporter heard at least three loud explosions in downtown Kyiv on Wednesday (30/8) at around 0500 local time (0200 GMT).
Emergency services have also been deployed to the southern Darnytskyi district, where debris fell on a commercial building, Popko wrote on Telegram.
