Jakarta –
Russia launched a 3.5 hour drone attack in the southern part of the Odesa region this morning. Drone attacks hit Danube River port infrastructure, injuring 2 people.
Reported ReutersSunday (3/9/2023), Ukrainian air defense systems shot down 22 of the 25 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia in Odesa early Sunday morning, the Ukrainian Air Force said via the Telegram messaging application.
Ukraine’s Southern Military Command said on social media that at least two civilians were injured in the attack on what it said was “civilian infrastructure on the Danube”.
The Danube river has been Ukraine’s main grain export route since the collapse in July of a UN-brokered agreement that allowed Kyiv to ship grain across the Black Sea.
There were no details on which port facilities were affected. The military said the fire caused by the attack was quickly extinguished.
Some Ukrainian media reported an explosion at the port of Reni, one of two main ports on the Danube operated by Ukraine. However, there was no immediate comment from the Russian side. Reuters could not independently verify the report.
