Khartoum: A drone attack on a market south of the capital Khartoum has killed 43 people as the army and rival paramilitary groups battle for control of the northeast African nation of Sudan.
More than 55 people were injured in the attack. The Sudan Doctors’ Union said in a statement that paramilitaries fighting the army were present in large numbers in the region. The injured are being treated at Bashir University Hospital.
The conflict between the country’s army led by General Abdul Fattah Burhan and the rebel group led by General Mohammad Hamdan Dagalo has escalated into open fighting since April this year. Sudan’s political environment has been troubled by military coups and attacks by rebel groups.
