The National Police has arrested a man who posed as a police officer in Madrid to intercept several citizens who were driving electric scooters with the excuse of a supposed identification, searched them and then stole their belongings and the vehicle.
As reported this Wednesday by the Madrid Police Headquarters in a statement, he is considered the alleged perpetrator of six robberies with intimidation and a crime of usurpation of public functions, and the judge has ordered his immediate imprisonment.
Between the months of July and August, this man intercepted several citizens who were riding an electric scooter through the Madrid districts of Retiro and Puente de Vallecas.
The ‘modus operandi’: license plate and even a fake gun
To gain the trust of his victims, he identified himself with a false badge, used a transmission device to pretend that he was consulting data with his team, carried out transactions with a presumed partner on his cell phone and on one occasion even showed what looked like a gun.
When the victims had fallen for the deception, the false police searched them and took the opportunity to steal their mobile phones, other belongings and the electric scooter they were traveling on, in some cases fleeing the scene in the vehicle itself.
After receiving the first complaints, the investigators related up to six robberies committed in the same way, for which an operation was established to identify the culprit, who was recognized by the victims and arrested last Thursday, the 24th.
