America: Anti-caste discrimination bill passed in California assembly, opponents told black day

Washington. In the US, the ‘California State Assembly’ has passed an anti-caste discrimination bill, which talks about removing caste discrimination and protecting marginalized communities in the state. The bill passed the Assembly on Monday, after which it was sent to state Governor Gavin Newsom for signature.

The bill will become law after the governor signs it, making California the first state in the US to include race as a protected category in its anti-discrimination laws. The bill aims to remove caste-based discrimination and protect marginalized communities in the state. The bill was introduced by state senator Ayesha Wahab and was supported by many of the country’s racial equality civil rights activists and organizations.

Wahab thanked the assembly for passing this bill. Hindus of North America (COHNA) described it as a “black day” in the history of California. COHNA said in a statement that the bill, designed to appear neutral and specifically target Hindu Americans, would prove to be just like the unjust legislations like the ‘Asian Exclusion Act’ (Asian Exclusion Act) that are being passed. These were popular during the 1950s, but they were used to target minorities on the basis of color.
