What is the Toshakhana case?
Imran Khan’s government came to power in Pakistan in 2018. During this period he received many expensive gifts from the Arab rulers. The gifts included an expensive wristwatch, a pair of cufflinks, an expensive pen, a ring and four Rolex watches. They were deposited in the Toshakhana (country warehouse). Imran Khan was accused by the opposition parties that he later bought the goods at discounted rates and sold them at a huge profit.
It was alleged that Imran Khan bought from Tosha Khanya for Rs 2.15 crore and made a profit of Rs 5.8 crore by selling the same. The gifts included a graph watch, a pair of cufflinks, an expensive pen, a ring and four Rolex watches. During the hearing of the case, Imran had said that after paying Rs 21.56 crore, around Rs 58 lakh was received from the sale of gifts purchased from the state treasury. He also claimed that there was no malpractice. In this case, a session court judge had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant on February 28.
