BMW increases ‘power’ to electrify car offering in the world

“Where the market is growing today is in electric and hybrid cars, which also indicates that the Mexican customer likes to go in that direction. In the first half of 2023 we delivered 1,722 electrified units between BMW and Miniwhich are 22 percent of total sales in the country,” he noted.

In addition, he recalled that this year BMW announced that it will invest 800 million euros to transform its SLP manufacturing center (where it currently manufactures the 3 Series and 2 Series Coupé), into one of the largest producers of electric cars and batteries.

“The factory we have here is the largest in Mexico, there are 800 million euros to convert SLP into the expansion to produce electric vehicles, and 500 million will be secured for the construction of the new building to produce high-voltage batteries that will be located inside of the plant land, the rest of the investment is bodywork and assembly for the Neue Klasse,” he explained.

In September, BMW Group sales increased 42.7 percent, marketing a total of 1,768 units. While, in the accumulated period from January to September, the German brand placed 12,143 vehicles, an increase of 3.5 percent more annually.


The automaker recently reported that Mini will electrify its car production in the United Kingdom, accelerating its vehicle electrification strategy for the coming years.
