Ceasefire likely to extend; Death toll in Gaza passes 15,000 |

Gaza: The ceasefire in Gaza is likely to be extended even after the six-day temporary pause. Negotiations are underway between Hamas and Israel to hand over more hostages and prisoners. Israeli intelligence agency Mossad chief David Barnia and American intelligence agency CIA chief William Burns arrived in Qatar’s capital Doha for mediation talks. They will meet with the Emir of Qatar and the Prime Minister.

So far, women, mothers and children held hostage by Hamas have been released. “Reuters” reported that the discussion is about the release of the elderly, women soldiers, and civilians serving in the military.

Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya told Al Jazeera earlier that the agreement was to release 30 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of 10 hostages on Tuesday and Wednesday.

So far, Hamas has released 69 hostages and Israel has released 150. The four-day ceasefire, which was due to end on Tuesday morning, was extended for two more days following mediation talks. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the Israeli offensive in Gaza has exceeded 15,000.
