Chivas, the team with the most “cheap” expulsions

They won at home against Cruz Azul, but Chivas did not learn the lesson. Alexis Vega lost his head again and his expulsion put the Flock’s victory in predicament.

Chivas is the team with the most expulsions so far in the tournament. They have already received six red cards so far in the 2022 Clausura Tournamentbut four of them were caused by angry claims against the whistlers and rival players.

Alexis Vega has been the bad guy in the movie. He has been the one who has taken two of the six expulsions and both for losing his head in the angry claims of him.

It was on Date 7 when Vega went to the showers at 67′ for using ‘coarse language’ against the whistler Fernando Hernández. Seven days later he made the same mistake: after receiving a foul, he immediately got up and grabbed Cruz Azul player Ignacio Rivero by the neck, a situation that earned him a red card in yesterday’s duel against La Maquina.

Fortunately for Vega, Chivas managed to keep the minimum advantage against Cruz Azul and won a valuable victory yesterday to reach 17 units and thus return to the Repechage zone.

More expulsions from “free”

In addition to the angry reactions that cost Vega red cards, Chivas has given away two other expulsions in this tournament.

Weeks ago, on Matchday 11, Miguel Ponce went to swim early in the Clásico Tapatío. The Chivas winger was expelled and suspended for violent behavior for having attacked Jairo Torres by holding him strongly by the neckwhen the final stretch of the first half was barely played.

Likewise, last weekend the then Flock coach, Michel Leaño, was expelled in the duel against Toluca after insisting on the claims against the whistler, despite the fact that his team won 1-0. In the end, the Devils got the tie out of them at the last minute.

Expulsions in plays

Of the six red cards that Chivas has in this tournament, only two have been for soccer plays on the field of play.

Gilberto Sepúlveda was sent off on Matchday 4 for a double yellow card. He left the team outnumbered from the 52nd minute, but Chivas managed to get the 3-1 victory in his visit against Juárez.

Last week Carlos Cisneros left the Flock with a man less after receiving the red card just at minute 27 in the duel against Toluca. He was expelled after committing a strong foul on Haret Ortega and the team suffered the man down in the final stretch of that game where they got the tie with a last minute goal.
