Discussions are active for government formation in Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Sharif) faction leader Shehbaz Sharif met with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari after the announcement of election results in Pakistan. The media reports that talks are going on to form a coalition government. Both the parties have declared political cooperation with each other. In a joint statement issued after the meeting, both the parties expressed mutual commitment to save the country from political instability.

Earlier, PML-N had intensified its efforts to form a coalition government in Islamabad. The position of the smaller parties will be crucial in the event that no party can reach an absolute majority of 133 seats. A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Party, which won 17 seats, visited Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif and agreed to work together in government formation. If talks with PPP fail, PML-N will join hands with other smaller parties to form a coalition government, party sources said.

Imran Khan’s PTI-backed Independents have topped with 101 seats. The election commission declared the party status as PML-N 75, PPP 54, Muttahida Qaumi Movement 17 and others 12.
