France: Le Pen accused of embezzling EU public money

AA / Paris

In France, the Rassemblement national presidential candidate, Marine Le Pen, is accused of embezzling public money from the European Union (EU).

This is what emerges from an article published by Mediapart, referring to the report of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) of the European Union (EU).

According to the report, the far-right candidate embezzled public money from the Strasbourg Parliament, when she sat there as an MP between 2004 and 2017.

Three other former parliamentarians, including his father Jean-Marie Le Pen, Louis Aliot and Bruno Gollnisch, are also mentioned in the report.

This is a total sum of more than 600 thousand euros.

According to Mediapart, OLAF seized French justice on March 11.

However, Le Pen’s lawyer, Rodolphe Bosselut told Mediapart that the candidate was not summoned by anyone.

He also criticized the “coincidence” of the publication of this information with “the campaign for the second round” of the presidential election to be held on April 24.
