XALAPA, Ver. (appro).– The Secretary of Health of Veracruz, Gerardo Díaz Morales, died after being admitted to a hospital after complicating a surgical intervention, confirmed the governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.
In recent days he underwent surgery after suffering from cancer, however, over the weekend the official presented “a strong decompensation” and was admitted.
The last public events of the official were in the month of July, before his operation.
Gerardo Díaz Morales assumed the position of office manager of the Ministry of Health on May 19, 2022 after the resignation of Roberto Ramos Alor, and was formally appointed to the position on the 25th of that month.
Díaz Morales was a doctor graduated from the Universidad Veracruzana. Among his work experience, he was a medical advisor to the Undersecretary of Health of the Health Services in Veracruz during the government of Miguel Ángel Yunes, from 2013 to 2017, and coordinator of advisors to the governor’s office from 2018 to 2022.
Before being Secretary of Health, he was a representative of the State Government before the Board of Directors of the Medical Arbitration Commission of the State of Veracruz.
This Monday, the governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, protested against Guadalupe Díaz del Castillo Flores as office manager of the Ministry of Health in the state.
He stated that the intention is for the doctor to continue with the work that had been carried out under the supervision of Díaz Morales.
