Head of EU Delegation lauds Turkey’s close relationship with EU

ANKARA

The head of the European Union’s Delegation to Turkey Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut on Monday praised the bloc’s close relationship with Ankara on the occasion of Europe Day 9 May.

As a candidate country for member of the European Union (EU), Turkey has so far overseen many EU programs, said Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut in an interview with Anadolu Agency.

Referring to the importance of Europe Day, he stressed that this relationship is the beginning of the European project.

“The basic message of Europe Day is peace, democracy, cooperation, human rights,” Landrut said.

The EU project enables Europeans to experience peace, freedom and wealth, he said, adding that the values ​​of freedom, protection of human rights and the rule of law, lie at the center of the project.

Referring to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, Landrut emphasized that it was Russian aggression that caused the war in Ukraine.

As a result, he said, we are seeing another war on the European continent on a scale unprecedented since World War II.​
