In North Korea, where the Covid-19 Pandemic was seen, 21 more people died in the last 24 hours

In North Korea, 174 thousand 440 people showed signs of high fever in the last 24 hours, so the number of people with high fever in the country since the end of April increased to 524 thousand 440.

While 243 thousand 630 of the people with symptoms of high fever regained their health, 280 thousand 810 were isolated.

In North Korea, where 21 people died in the last 24 hours, the number of people who died in the last 2 days rose to 27.

In addition, the North Korean official media did not give any information about how many of the 524 thousand 440 people who showed signs of high fever and how many of the 27 people who lost their lives were diagnosed with Covid-19.

According to the news of the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the Omicron variant of Covid-19 was detected in samples taken from people with high fever symptoms. However, the details of the number of people tested and determined by Omicron were not shared.

The Pandemic is a “major disaster”

Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un described the Pandemic as a “major disaster” in historical terms at the politburo meeting of the ruling Korean Workers’ Party.

Kim called on the people and the government to be united so that the Pandemic can be stabilized as soon as possible.

Noting that his country can control the Pandemic, Kim asked the authorities to learn lessons from other countries’ successful fights against the Pandemic and from China’s experiences.

In the news of KCNA, it was stated that the distribution of medical supplies was discussed at the meeting.

In a report presented to members of the Politburo at the meeting, officials of the country’s emergency Pandemic office stated that “mistakes such as over-taking medication and lack of scientific medical treatment” accounted for most of the deaths.

The first cases were announced the previous day.

The first Covid-19 case was detected in North Korea on May 12. While information on the number of cases was not shared, it was stated that the cases were a sub-variant of Omicron known as “BA.2”.

While a “state of emergency” was declared in the country after the identified cases, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for a “curfew” to be implemented in all provinces and districts in the country in order to prevent the spread of the Pandemic.

It was announced that 6 people died yesterday in the country, and it was officially announced that the death of only one of these people was caused by the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

A major Pandemic in North Korea, where the health system is not so good and the people are not vaccinated against Covid-19, could lead to a humanitarian crisis.

North Korea had rejected the offer of millions of doses of vaccine made by the World Health Organization’s Global Access Program for Covid-19 Vaccines (COVAX), which aims to ensure equal access to vaccines for low- and middle-income countries.

While North Korea claims that the Covid-19 Pandemic did not spread in the country thanks to determined measures, it is stated that the closed border gates dealt a serious blow to the country’s economy.
