Indonesia records 15 cases of acute hepatitis

JAKARTA

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin noted 15 mysterious cases of acute hepatitis were found in Indonesia

“On April 27, Indonesia found three cases in Jakarta and we issued a circular asking all hospitals and social services to carry out surveillance. So far, there are 15 cases in Indonesia,” Budi said in his statement on Monday.

Budi said the Ministry of Health had coordinated and discussed with WHO, United States authorities, and several countries in Europe to find out the cause of the mysterious disease.

“The conclusion is that it is not yet certain what virus is 100 percent causing this acute hepatitis. The research was carried out jointly by Indonesia in order to be able to quickly detect the cause of this disease,” he explained.

For the sake of prevention, Budi appealed to the public to practice hand and food hygiene more often.

This is because this virus is transmitted through food intake through the mouth.

“So if we can wash our hands diligently so that we make sure what goes into our children’s (mouths), many of which are under 16 years old, are clean,” explained Minister of Health Budi.
