INE: Registration deadline extended for Mexicans abroad who want to vote

The General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved this Thursday, February 15, to extend the deadline for Mexicans abroad to participate in the 2024 elections.

The new deadline to register is February 25, 2024, when it was initially scheduled for the 20th.

How do I register?

If you live abroad and have a valid voting credential, issued in national territory or outside of it, you must go to and choose one of the three voting methods available: online voting, postal mail or in-person voting at selected offices.

The in-person modality will be available at the consulates and embassies of Mexico in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New Brunswick, New York, Oklahoma, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Ana, Seattle, Washington DC, Montreal , Madrid and Paris, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

The General Council of the INE also resolved to expand to 1,500 the number of electronic ballots that will be available for those who, without having registered, go to vote in person at one of the 23 consulates where this modality will be available.

To do this, indicated the SRE, it will be essential to have a valid voting credential issued in Mexico or abroad.

“If you processed your voting credential at a Mexican consulate or embassy and you still have not received it, visit or call INETEL at the number +52 (55) 54 81 98 97. Participating in the decisions of your country is your right. Don’t be left out! “This campaign is for dissemination purposes and is unrelated to any political party. Report any complaint to [email protected],” the Foreign Ministry stated.
