CNN was unable to independently verify the claims, due to the difficulty of reporting from war zones.

For information, Rafah is a city in the southern part of Gaza which is filled with Palestinian residents who have fled from other areas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now directed his military to plan the evacuation of civilians before a ground offensive is launched.

Rafah is the last major population center in Gaza not occupied by Israeli forces, and Palestinians living there have warned that they have nowhere to go.
