Eyewitnesses said that in the early hours of Sunday morning, Israeli police closed the gates of Jerusalem’s Old City, preventing worshipers from outside the city from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the dawn prayer.
Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that the Israeli police closed the gates of the Old City of Jerusalem, with iron barriers, and prevented all worshipers from outside the city from reaching the Al-Masjid. Aqsa to perform the dawn prayer.
As for the worshipers inside the Old City, the police stipulated that they must be over 40 years old to be able to enter the mosque, according to the same source.
No official statement has been issued from the Israel Police regarding this decision.
For days, tension has reigned in the city of Jerusalem and in the mosque compound due to the incursion of settlers during the Jewish Passover holiday, which coincides with the month of Ramadan.
At dawn last Friday, Israeli police stormed the mosque, wounding dozens of Palestinians inside and arresting hundreds.
