Israeli police on Friday attacked Palestinian mourners during the funeral procession for slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in occupied East Jerusalem.
Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that Israeli police attacked the funeral procession which started from a French hospital in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
They added that Israeli police surrounded the mourners and used stun grenades and batons to attack the pallbearers carrying Abu Akleh’s coffin.
Israeli police allowed several Palestinians to escort his coffin to Jerusalem’s Old City, where he will be buried in the Mount Zion Protestant Cemetery.
Veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was covering an Israeli military raid near the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank when she was shot dead on Wednesday. Palestinian officials and the Doha-based network said he was targeted by Israeli forces.
