UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini condemned the attack and said the death toll was likely to rise.

“Once again blatant disregard for the basic rules of war,” Lazzarini said in X, adding that the compound had been clearly marked as a UN facility, and its coordinates had been shared with Israeli authorities.

Additionally, it said teams from UNRWA and the World Health Organization (WHO) were trying to reach the shelter, which had been blocked for two days.
