José Antonio Meade, the last presidential candidate of the PRI: What does he do now?

For the 2024 elections, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) was left without a candidate, for the first time in its history, when it declined for the PAN member Xóchitl Gálvez.

This is because he will compete in the Broad Front alliance for Mexico (PRI, PAN and PRD. Thus, the last PRI presidential candidate was José Antonio Meade, in 2018.

Meade faced Ricardo Anaya for the National Action Party (PAN) and Andrés Manuel López Obrador for Morena in the 2018 elections.

Since then, he has moved away from ‘the spotlight’ by leaving politics behind to dedicate himself to a different field.

What happened to José Antonio Meade?

Through their social networks, Meade has shared that he is now an academic at the Pan American University.

“Closing the Economics course! Good luck in the finals! ”Was what the former PRI presidential candidate wrote on his Instagram account when uploading a selfie which was taken with a group of students.

Also on his other social networks he has shared that teaches classes on International Politics and participates in university events, including talks and conferences.

One of the most recent was on Tuesday, August 29, when he had a meeting with the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ at the Tec de Monterrey.

“Great opportunity to live with the Leaders of Tomorrow. His talent and social commitment is evident,” Meade wrote.

Additionally, in November he participated in the 55th anniversary of Pedagogy at the Universidad Panamericana and as synod at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).

Is the PRI story over in Mexico?

On Wednesday, PRI leader Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno reported that his party was declining in favor of Xóchitl Gálvez, to represent the alliance.

Thus, this political group ‘let go of the hand’ of Beatriz Paredes, the PRI contender who competed with Gálvez Ruiz for the presidential candidacy of the opposition Front.

Since Monday, August 28, ‘Alito’ Moreno acknowledged that the polls did not favor Beatriz Paredes, which caused suspicions and rumors about the PRI’s possible decline.

It is expected that this Thursday afternoon, the PRI and Beatriz Paredes make an announcement about his position regarding the candidate of the Frente Amplio por México.
