Medvedchuk turned to Putin and Zelensky with a request for an exchange

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Viktor Medvedchuk appealed to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky with a request to exchange him for the civilians of Mariupol.

The video of the appeal was published by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

“I, Viktor Vladimirovich Medvedchuk, want to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with a request that the Ukrainian side exchange me for the defenders of Mariupol and the residents who are there today and do not have the possibility of a safe exit through humanitarian corridors,” – he said in an appeal published on the Telegram channel of the SBU.

The leader of the Opposition Platform – For Life, known as Ukraine’s second largest party, was sentenced to house arrest in May 2021 on suspicion of treason.

Medvedchuk, who allegedly escaped from house arrest after the start of the war in the country, was detained by the SBU.

The politician is known for his friendly relations with Vladimir Putin.

On the night of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in the Ukrainian Donbas.

Following this, the Russian army attacked Ukraine. Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, were subjected to missile and bomb attacks.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky responded by saying that martial law is being introduced throughout the country. The Ukrainian leader also announced a break in diplomatic relations with Russia.

The Kremlin’s actions were condemned at the UN and in most capitals of the world. Tough sanctions have been imposed on Russia.
