Military man who shot a Mexican in the Río Bravo is removed from his position: Foreign Ministry

MEXICO CITY (apro).- Members of the Mexican consular representation met with Texas authorities to complain about the attack perpetrated on August 26 by a state National Guard agent against a Mexican citizen while he was in Mexico .

According to the Foreign Ministry, the investigation into what happened is ongoing; meanwhile, the agent who shot Darwin José García last Saturday night was separated from his position until the facts are clarified.

The Texan soldier used his firearm against the 37-year-old man, originally from Veracruz, even though he was on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. The bullet penetrated the Mexican’s leg.

The reason for the shot has not been determined, but human rights organizations have denounced that the incident is the product of the anti-immigrant policy deployed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) maintained that, during a meeting with Texas authorities, their representatives described the incident as “inadmissible” and denounced its “impact on human rights and the security and integrity of the migrant people”.
