The linguist and professor Carmen Junyent i Figueras ha death at 68 years, according to confirmed sources of the family. Nascuda the 1955 to Masquefa (Anoia), Junyent was a professor of linguistics at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Barcelona (UB) –specialized in threatened languageslinguistic anthropology and languages of immigration to Catalonia – and director of the Grup d’Estudi de Llengües Amenaçades (GELA).
The neighboring, prestigious and media linguist is the author of a vast work on the situation of world languages and linguistic diversity.
Junyent will also be president of the Consell Lingüístic Assessor and guard the Creu de Sant Jordi 2019 “for the long trajectory in the study and the defense of linguistic diversity in Catalonia and the world”.
