Motorcycle loaded with explosives explodes in Peshawar, leaving two dead

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A motorcycle packed with explosives exploded Sunday morning in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing two people and seriously injuring another, police said.

The motorcycle was carrying between 4 and 5 kilograms of explosives when it exploded in Peshawar’s Board Bazaar area, said Kashif Abbasi, chief superintendent of police operations in Peshawar.

The explosives went off prematurely, Abbasi said. He did not specify what the objective of the attack was.

Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban, also known as the TTP. The city has suffered several deadly attacks in recent years.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered a prayer for the victims. “We are totally determined to eradicate terrorism,” he said, according to a statement from his office.
