Niger: Mohamed Bazoum begins his first state visit to Côte d’Ivoire

Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum began a two-day visit to Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, the Nigerien Presidency announced in a statement.

“At the invitation of HE Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, the President of the Republic HE Mr. Mohamed Bazoum, is making a State visit to Abidjan from Thursday 23 to Friday 24 June 2022”, indicates the communicated.

“This first trip by the Head of State for a meeting of this level relates to the strengthening of the ties of cooperation, established in the aftermath of independence in 1960”, adds the same source.

“Various topics will be discussed during the one-on-one talks that the Heads of State will have and the discussions extended to the delegations of the two countries”, specified the Nigerien Presidency.

Among other topics, there are economic, energy and training issues or those related to the rural world.

“The security emergency will certainly be the subject of bilateral discussions between Presidents Alassane Ouattara and Mohamed Bazoum due to the dissemination of terrorist groups in certain southern margins of West Africa and their capacity to cause harm”, relates the Presidency in his statement.

According to the same source, “The program of President Mohamed Bazoum’s state visit provides for the signing of bilateral agreements just after the extended talks with the respective delegations, followed by a one-on-one meeting between the two leaders and the traditional joint press conference”.

Niger and Côte d’Ivoire are both members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) bringing together West African countries using the CFA franc.
