Nijjar Killing: Canadian government softens after India’s displeasure; PM Trudeau said, ‘We provoked…’ | leader

The Prime Minister of Canada had alleged that there could be a conspiracy of the Indian government behind the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. After this, Canada also took action against Indian ambassadors. After this allegation, India has expressed its displeasure and has taken a stand against Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tone has softened after India’s displeasure. Prime Minister of Canada has said that we are not trying to provoke India. We want India to take this matter seriously.

What did Canada’s PM Trudeau say?

Prime Minister Trudeau said on Tuesday (Dec 19) that Canada is not trying to provoke India over the killing of a Sikh separatist leader. We want New Delhi to look into this issue and take it seriously. Trudeau said that the Indian government needs to take this matter seriously. Trudeau also made it clear that we are not trying to provoke or escalate the matter by making these allegations.

India’s position

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had accused India in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canadian Foreign Minister Melania Jolie announced the expulsion of a top Indian ambassador from the country following allegations made in the Canadian Parliament. India has flatly rejected Justin Trudeau’s claims that there could be a “possible link” between the killing of Nijjar and an Indian government agent. Trudeau called the claim “baseless” and “motivated”.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead

In June, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Khalistani leader in Canada, was shot dead. Nijjar was attacked by two unidentified assailants near the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada. He died in this attack.
