No fear of jail… Putin will travel to China despite arrest warrant against him

Without fear of success… to leave Russia and not be arrested: President Vladimir Putin has agreed to make his first trip abroad since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for him on alleged war crimes.

the kremlin is preparing Putin’s visit to China for the Forum of the Belt and Road Initiative in October, according to three people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified because the issue is sensitive.

Putin accepted Chinese President Xi Jinping’s invitation to attend the event, one of the people said.

This will not be Putin’s only meeting with another president in the coming days. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President, is expected to meet Putin in Russia next week to discuss the reactivation of the agreement on grains through the Black Sea.

Erdogan would possibly travel to Russia on September 8, before going to India to attend the Group of 20 Summit in New Delhi, according to two Turkish officials familiar with the matter.

Conversely, Putin will not attend the G20 summit in India due to a “very busy schedule.” His main goal at the moment is to pursue Russia’s war in neighboring Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said last week.

Russia denies that Putin had anything to do with Prigozhin’s death

Putin was singled out for the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group who led an ‘uprising’ against the Russian military leadership in June. The president acknowledged that the solution to the conflict prevented a “civil war” in his country.

Prigozhin was granted retirement in Belarus without any charges against him.

“There is a lot of speculation about the air disaster and the tragic death” of the plane’s occupants, said Dmitri Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman. He added that in the West such “speculations” are presented from “a certain angle”.

According to US and Western officials, the explosion of the plane carrying Prigozhin coincides with the “long history of Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to silence his critics.”
