Oil production halted at El Fil field in Libya

Production at the El Fil oil field in southern Libya has been halted due to force majeure.

According to the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC), the day before, a group of armed men broke into the facility and forced employees to stop production.

In this regard, NOC has declared “force majeure” until further notice, the company noted.

The NOC urged caution to protect infrastructure damaged by the arbitrary stoppage of production in recent years and to keep the oil industry from clashing.

Earlier, the company reported that on March 4, an armed group led by Mohammed al-Bashir al-Karaj mothballed wells at the Ash-Sharara and El-Fil fields in southern Libya.

The El-Fil field produces about 125,000 barrels of oil per day.
