Now Zardari got the support of ‘PML-N’ in the presidential election. In the presidential election, Zardari was challenged by Pashtun Khwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He was supported by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, along with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

After the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Zardari became active in politics

Benazir was killed in 2007. In the elections held after this, Zardari’s ‘PPP’ got a resounding success. After this he became the President of Pakistan. His son Bilawal Zardari Bhutto became the Foreign Minister. Zardari previously served as President from 2008 to 2013. Even though Zardari will be the president in the new power equation after the elections, the real sources will be in the hands of the military.
