Palestine Reading Week officially opens at 10.00 Palestinian time or 15.00 WIB. A campaign that invites all readers in the world to show solidarity in reading books by authors and about Palestine.
Since 1978, the UN has designated November 29 as International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. Ahead of tomorrow, publishers around the world are celebrating Palestine Reading Week which will last until December 5 2023.
Publishers for Palestine gathered to draft an open statement of solidarity with the Palestinian people. As well as condemning many parts of the publishing industry including the Frankfurt Book Fair which silence Palestinian voices and criticism of Israel.
In the open statement, there have been more than 350 signatures from publishers worldwide.
Here are 3 reading recommendations written by Palestinian writers as summarized by detikHOT editorial staff:
1. Minor Details (Adania Shibli)
Adania Shibli’s name emerged after being ‘silenced’ by this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. One of his famous books, Minor Detail, is set in the summer of 1949, one year after the Nakba war. The disaster caused the displacement and expulsion of more than 700 thousand people.

Years later, a woman from Ramallah became fascinated and obsessed with these ‘minor details’ of history.

The novel ‘Against a World Without Love’ highlights the story of Nahr, a young Palestinian woman who seeks a better life for her family while traveling to the Middle East as a refugee.
