Paris demands the release of two French citizens arrested in Iran

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France rejected this Thursday the arrest of two citizens of its nation in Iran and demanded their immediate release.

In a statement, the Ministry described the arrest as “unfounded” and warned that it will remain “fully mobilized for this purpose.”

The Ministry reported that the French Embassy in Tehran raised the matter with the Iranian authorities in order to obtain consular access to the nationals.

The charg√© d’affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Paris was also summoned by the French Ministry.

The two French were arrested on Wednesday for an alleged “attempt to destabilize the country.” Iranian state television reported that the two detainees were accused of “organizing chaos and social disorder with the aim of destabilizing” the country.

Hours earlier, Christophe Lalande, federal secretary of the French teachers’ union FNEC FP-FO, reported that one of its members had disappeared while vacationing in Iran with his partner. They were supposed to return to France earlier this week.
