Powerful Earthquake and Tsunami Threat Hit Japan, Netizens Offer Prayers

Earthquake with initial strength of magnitude 7.6 rocked Japan and triggered warnings tsunami. Reported by Reuters, Monday (1/1/2024), broadcaster NHK said the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning along the western coastal areas of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama prefectures. This incident started to stir up social media.

A tsunami up to 5 meters high is believed to have reached Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture. NHK also reported waves more than 1 meter high hit the coast of Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Residents were asked to move to higher ground. This tsunami early warning appeared after the earthquake. “All residents should immediately evacuate to higher ground,” said national broadcaster NHK.
