Qatar: Shura Council condemns Israeli practices in Al-Aqsa

Qatar’s Shura Council on Monday condemned Israeli attacks on worshipers inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

We express our “condemnation of the Israeli assaults on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the attack on the Palestinian worshippers”, the advisory council said during a weekly session, quoted by the national news agency QNA.

He called for swift “international action to end the repeated Israeli attacks against the brotherly Palestinian people and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque”.

Tension has been rising in the Palestinian territories since Friday, when Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and attacked worshipers, injuring hundreds.

Daily incursions by settlers into the sensitive site to celebrate Passover week have further aggravated the situation.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in the world for Muslims. Jews refer to the area as the “Temple Mount”, claiming that it housed two Jewish temples in ancient times.

During the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where the Al-Aqsa Mosque is located. In 1980, the entire city was annexed, which was never recognized by the international community.
