Incredible! Wednesday August 30, 2023 will be remembered for several reasons, one of them, the controversial reason why the player from White Roosters of QuerétaroOmar Mendoza, was sent off in the Matchday 5 match against the Atlas red-and-blacks.
The Mexican soccer game was rescheduled due to modifications made to the calendar of the Liga MX for the realization of the Leagues Cup, and yesterday Atlas and Querétaro met again in La Corregidora, for the first time with fans in the stands, since the acts of violence that occurred on March 5 of last year.
But yesterday another event happened that will be well remembered, and for some, it is one of the most grotesque expulsions ever seen in national football.
Omar Mendoza, right back for Gallos, saw the red card when referee Fernando Hernández noticed an unexpected action.
It was minute 63 when, in midfield, Mendoza went to mark the Colombian midfielder from AtlasJuan Manuel Zapata, and in the fight he improperly touched an area of the body of the red and black player. The action was seen on television and videos of the moment circulated on social networks immediately.
The whistler reviewed the controversial action in the VAR, and reiterated that the action warranted the red card.
Experts say that the play derived from Ground 6 of the regulations of the Referees Commission of the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF), which explains that a footballer must be expelled from a match for using “offensive, humiliating or insulting language and/or gestures”.
They point out that because of this, the defender would miss the next game of the 2023 Opening Tournament.
