Islamabad: Relief to former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana corruption case. The Islamabad High Court canceled the three-year prison sentence.
Imran Khan will be released from jail soon. The High Court accepted Imran’s plea to quash the court verdict that convicted him. A bench comprising Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri also ordered his release from jail. On August 5, the trial court sentenced Imran to three years in prison.
The court also banned political activities for five years. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced through a WhatsApp message that the Islamabad High Court had quashed the district court verdict. Justice Farooq said that the copy of the court verdict will be made available soon and the only thing that is being said now is that Imran’s demand has been accepted.
“Chief Justice accepted our request, temporarily froze the sentence and said that the details of the judgment will be given later,” Naeem Haider, Imran’s lawyer, wrote on X Platform (Twitter). The court, which concluded the hearing on the petition on Monday, adjourned it to Tuesday to pronounce its verdict. Last week, the Supreme Court of Pakistan pointed out that there was a lapse in the procedures of the case.
Imran’s supporters were hoping that there would be a verdict in favor of Imran. The case against Imran is that he hid and sold the gifts received while in official position.
