At least 20 drivers from the metropolis were referred to the Urban Alcohol Detention Center (CURVA) for driving under the influence of alcohol during the night of December 31 and the early hours of January 1.
Those responsible will also have to pay a fine of more than 15 thousand pesos for carrying out said action.
The Road Police reported through a statement that it applied 4,030 breathalyzer tests during New Year’s Eve in the modules of the Saving Lives program installed in different parts of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
The extension of the state government program, which seeks to reduce road accidents due to the combination of alcohol and driving, will continue in the day and night shifts until next January 6.
In accordance with what is stated in the Mobility Law, the penalties for those who drive drunk range from 15,661 to 20,748 pesos.
However, if the test shows more than .41 milligrams of alcohol per liter of expired air, the driver will have to undergo an immutable administrative arrest of 12 to 24 hours.
If it is more than .65 milligrams, the penalty increases to 36 hours.
In 2023, there were 4,122 people detained in the CURVA and 4,116 vehicles removed from circulation.
Of these cases, just over 500 were recorded in the month of December.
