MEXICO CITY (apro).- Unanimously, with 98 votes in favor, the plenary session of the Senate of the Republic ratified the appointment of Alicia Isabel Adriana Bárcena Ibarra as head of the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE).

After its ratification, the president of the Board of Directors, the Morenista Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera, took the legal protest and wished her success in her new position.

Bárcena served as executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and was later appointed as Mexico’s ambassador to Chile.

Senators from all parties highlighted Bárcena’s career.

The president of the Foreign Relations Commission, the Morenoist Héctor Vasconcelos, said that the members of the organization under his charge agreed that she has the capacity to perform this position optimally, since she is one of the best diplomats he has ever had. Mexico.

Patricia Mercado, from Movimiento Ciudadano, stressed that Alicia Bárcena has a solid career and is one of the few diplomats in the world who promotes a “feminist” foreign political agenda.

Germán Martínez Cázares, from the Plural Group, said that Alicia Bárcena is a source of pride for Mexico in the world for her civic tenacity and her diplomatic professionalism.
