The leader of the far-right Danish “Hard Line” party, Rasmus Paludan, burned copies of the Holy Quran in Swedish areas inhabited by Muslims.
Paludan, who has dual Danish and Swedish nationality, burned copies of the Koran in the Frölunda, Boras and Trollhättan regions of the southwestern province of Västergötland.
A large force made up of the Swedish police and intelligence services accompanied Paludan on his travels, in order to ensure his protection from the demonstrators who gathered to denounce this provocative practice.
Police arrested protesters who managed to get closer to where Paludan was, and one was taken into custody, amid protests over the setting fire to the sacred book.
The far-right leader has engaged in provocative acts by burning copies of the Holy Quran in various cities in Denmark since 2017.
Paludan repeated his provocative actions throughout the month of Ramadan last year, near neighborhoods populated by Muslims and their mosques, under police protection.
Over the past month, Paludan burned a copy of the Koran in Linköping, southern Sweden.
Clashes that took place between demonstrators and police, when the extremist leader set fire to a copy of the Koran, resulted in a balance sheet of 26 police officers and 14 demonstrators injured, as well as the destruction of 20 police cars.
