The housing crisis spreads throughout Europe, but that of Holland is already on another level

According to Tamara Kuschel, it all started about ten years ago. Since the 1970s, the charity Kuschel works for in Amsterdam, De Regenboog (The Rainbow), has run day shelters for the homeless. These are generally people with serious addiction and mental health problems.

Then, around 2015, a new type of user began to arrive: “They did not have the usual problems of people who are homeless. They had work, friends. In all aspects, their lives were very stable. But they couldn’t afford a place to live.”
