The supermarket that decides to ‘drop’ the price of milk

According to NIQ data, Spaniards spent 11.3% more in the shopping basket in the month of July, compared to the same period last year. Specifically, volume has experienced a slight increase of 0.8%, while prices have registered an increase of 10.4%.

Taking this situation into account, it is important to note that there are some products that are an exception: their cost is not only not increasing, but rather decreasing.

This is what happens with milk. Proof of this is that there is a supermarket that has decided to ‘throw away’ its price. This is Alcampo, which sells six liters of its white-brand semi-skimmed milk (Auchan) for 3.60 euros. In this way, the price of each liter of the aforementioned milk is only 0.60 euros.

Asaja warns of the dramatic situation in the sector due to price drops

However, as stated Europe Press, from the agricultural union Asaja Asturias, emphasize that the drop in the price of milk is not good news for farmers. According to Asaja, these price reductions have been unilaterally passed on by the dairy industry to farmers, and the trend is expected to continue in the coming months.

The agricultural union emphasizes that the situation is totally unacceptable taking into account the significant decrease in production and livestock farmers, a fact that has been confirmed by data published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

“That in a deficit country like Spain, there is a drop in price in the face of a product shortage corroborates that the only interest of the Spanish dairy industry is in achieving a good profit and loss account,” warns Asaja.

The group claims to have proof of imports of milk and dairy products from other countries by the dairy industries, which allows them to obtain significant benefits at the cost of abandoning the Spanish production sector.

For this reason, Asaja demands that the Ministry of Agriculture carry out exhaustive monitoring and control so that under no circumstances are milk or dairy products from other countries labeled as a Spanish product.
