CELAYA, Gto. (apro).- Manuel Pacheco López, one of the bodyguards of Celaya’s Secretary of Citizen Security, Jesús Rivera Peralta, was executed when he was driving along Irrigación avenue in an official municipal government van. The municipal police officer was shot several times in the head.
The attack was reported to the emergency system. Upon arrival, the paramedics found Manuel Pacheco alive and transferred them to receive medical attention around 7:00 p.m., although moments later it was revealed that he died in the hospital.
The escort of the Secretary of Citizen Security was identified by municipal police officers who came to attend to the report, although the municipal agency itself later confirmed that the victim was acting as an escort for Rivera Peralta, but that at that time he was doing personal activities.
“It transpired that, upon the arrival of the emergency units, it was confirmed that it was a police officer assigned as a security escort, who was alone at the time of the attack,” says the Celaya Secretariat for Citizen Security in a press release issued by the municipal government.
The press release issued moments after the attack reported that the bodyguard’s state of health was reported to be serious but stable, and it was later that the death of the municipal police officer was confirmed.
Celaya is currently the most lethal municipality for public security elements in Guanajuato, the result of attacks directed mainly at the so-called “fedepales”, which are elements of the extinct Federal Police, who began to join the corporation in 2020 when the then PAN mayor Elvira Paniagua Rodríguez appointed Miguel Ángel Simental, the former coordinator of the Federal Police in Guanajuato, Secretary of Security.
In Guanajuato, 42 security elements have been assassinated in 2023, 20 of them in the municipality of Celaya.
