Abuja. 26 people died after a boat capsized in Mokwa area of Central Niger state in Nigeria, while about 44 people are still missing. Local officials said the accident occurred on Sunday between Jabba and Kainzi dams in Gbajibo ward of Mokwa local government area.
Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) spokesman Ibrahim Husseini said more than 100 people were on board the boat heading towards their farms on the other side of the Niger River (Old Gbajibo). He said the agency is working closely with Mokwa local government officials and local divers to conduct search and rescue operations at the site of the incident. “So far, 26 bodies have been recovered, while more than 30 people have been rescued,” he said. The rescue operation is going on. It is said that there were more than 100 people on the boat at the time of the incident.
Six killed, 57 injured as bus overturns in Pakistan
On the other hand, at least six people died and 57 others were injured when a bus overturned in Pakistan’s East Punjab province on Sunday. The rescue service has given this information. Police told the media that the accident occurred near a motorway interchange in Sheikhupura district. The bus overturned due to speeding and overloading. Police and rescue workers reached the spot after receiving information and admitted the injured to the nearest hospital. The rescue service said 37 seriously injured people were later transferred to another hospital for treatment. The bus was carrying Christian pilgrims who were going to attend a religious gathering.
Security forces killed seven terrorists in Pakistan
At least seven terrorists have been killed and six others have been injured in a clash between security forces and terrorists in Pakistan’s north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The army gave this information on Sunday. There was an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Ursun area of Chitral district on Saturday, the army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
