Abuja. 26 people died after a boat capsized in Mokwa area of ​​Central Niger state in Nigeria, while about 44 people are still missing. Local officials said the accident occurred on Sunday between Jabba and Kainzi dams in Gbajibo ward of Mokwa local government area.

Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) spokesman Ibrahim Husseini said more than 100 people were on board the boat heading towards their farms on the other side of the Niger River (Old Gbajibo). He said the agency is working closely with Mokwa local government officials and local divers to conduct search and rescue operations at the site of the incident. “So far, 26 bodies have been recovered, while more than 30 people have been rescued,” he said. The rescue operation is going on. It is said that there were more than 100 people on the boat at the time of the incident.

Six killed, 57 injured as bus overturns in Pakistan
