The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Moez Belhassen, met on Monday with a delegation from Swisscontact, an independent foundation close to the private sector for international development cooperation, according to the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency (TAP). /official).
The meeting focused on the development of sustainable and alternative tourism in Tunisia such as the “Destination Dhaher” project in the southeast.
The participants, in fact, agreed to further develop this type of project and to generalize it in the different regions of the country since this type of project makes it possible to highlight the specificities of each region. They also recommended creating Destination Management Federations (DMOs).
Tunisia launched, in 2021, the DMO Djerba project to enhance the wealth, tourism, culture, urban planning and nature of the island and diversify the offer.
The destination Dhahar was ranked first in the world, as the best destination for the theme “Culture and local communities”. Thus, Tunisia became the first Arab and North African country to receive this distinction in the field of sustainable tourism, we read from the same source.
