Turkish president sends condolences on death of UAE president

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday offered his condolences on the passing of United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Erdogan expressed his “deep sadness and condolences” over the death of 73-year-old Al Nahyan, who served as president of the UAE since 2004.

“I wish Allah’s mercy upon him and extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of the sister country of the United Arab Emirates,” he said on Twitter.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop also expressed his “deep sorrow” in a message of condolence.

“I wish Allah’s mercy, patience and condolences to his family and everyone in the United Arab Emirates,” Sentop said on Twitter.

The UAE will observe a 40-day period of mourning for Sheikh Khalifa, during which flags will be flown at half-mast, while jobs will be suspended in the public and private sectors for three days.
