US Ambassador to UN: Assad regime did not win the right to soften relations

The USA took over the presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in May.

US Ambassador to the UN Thomas Greenfield explained the priorities of the USA as the May term chairman of the UNSC and evaluated the agenda at the press conference he held at the UN Headquarters.

Asked about the Arab countries’ normalization process with the regime in Syria and the US’s position, Greenfield said, “We do not think that the Assad regime has earned the right to soften relations. They are still holding their own people hostage and continuing to commit human rights violations.” made its assessment.

“We will continue to pressure Russia on Ukraine”

Stating that Russia was isolated in the UN due to the war it started against Ukraine, Thomas Greenfield stated that they would continue to put pressure on Russia for the evacuation of civilians and humanitarian aid.
