White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that if Sweden and Finland want to join NATO, the US will support their applications.
At his daily press conference at the White House, Psaki praised Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s joint statement that their countries “should apply for NATO membership without delay.”
“The United States will support Finland and Sweden joining NATO if they decide to apply,” the spokeswoman said.
Psaki said that the United States will respect the choice of these countries.
She added that Finland and Sweden are close partners of both the US and NATO.
Jen Psaki said in particular: “Our armies have been working together for years, even without the membership of these countries in NATO.”
