Israeli police assaulted Palestinian mourners at the funeral procession for slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in occupied East Jerusalem on Friday, May 13.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that Israeli police attacked the funeral procession as it left the French hospital in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
They added that Israeli police surrounded the mourners and used stun grenades and batons to attack Abu Akleh’s pallbearers.
Israeli police allowed few Palestinians to accompany her coffin to Jerusalem’s Old City, where she will be buried in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was covering Israeli military incursions near the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank when she was shot dead on Wednesday.
Palestinian authorities and the Doha, Qatar-based Al Jazeera news network say she and a fellow journalist, Ali Al-Samoudi, fThey were attacked by Israeli forces.
